Carotid & Transcranial Doppler

Carotid and brain ultrasound doppler studies are used to visualize and detect blood flow in the neck and brain. It consists of attaching ultrasound probe on the neck or head area for 30-40 minutes. The test may detect abnormalities of the circulation such as blockages, occlusions, vessel anomalies or other abnormalities

Doppler may help determine the risk for stroke, explain dizziness, passing out, headaches, visual changes or buzzing in the ears. Sometimes additional testing of blood vessels may be necessary with a MRA or cerebral angiogram.
